The hazy, chunky rock of ‘Describe’ shows Perfume Genius’ ability to craft trippy, heavy, yet strangely beautiful music. There are folky elements buried within the track, yet that agonisingly distorted guitar tone could easily feel more at home in a piece of crushingly heavy doom metal. The man behind Perfume Genius, Mike Hadreas, describes the impetus behind creating this tune: “it started as a really somber ballad. It was very minimal and very slow. And then it turned into this beast of a song. I started writing about when you are in such a dark place that you don't even remember what goodness is or what anything feels like”. With support slots alongside Tame Impala and the album Set My Heart On Fire Immediately due for release on May 15^th, 2020 is a big year for Perfume Genius. - Dan Peeke
